Who’s at Speciality Food Fair 2018?

Speciality Food Fair has become a feature event on the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council event calendar, and each year it gets bigger and better.

Now in its fourth year, an expanded food hall will showcase speciality foods from across Northern Ireland. There is something very satisfying about having a chat with the producer, hearing their story and buying directly from them.  Foods on offer include fresh and cured meats, seasonal vegetables, fruit, butter, cheese and an array of baked goods. In addition to all of that, you’ll find a diverse selection of small batch foods from the most creative artisan producers: Preserves, chutneys, pickles, sauces, oils, vinegars, chocolate, fudge and micro-roasted coffee are just some of the other specialities on offer.

The popular Street Food Village and Café Bar will feature as before, with an expanded offering and covered space.

Have a look at our full programme for the day here.  This will provide you with the schedule on interactive family fun workshops, and the new zone of expert talks and workshops with everything from honey tasting, beekeeping talks, beeswax wraps, kitchen skills and chef demos in the Kitchen Sessions.  

Finally, we have added to the non-food offering. In addition to a select horticultural offering, we have invited a few complementary skincare producers of locally made, artisan products so could you could eat them. There are also treats for the four-legged members of the family.

Entry and parking to the Speciality Food Fair is FREE and will run from 10am – 6pm on Saturday 18th August. Access for blue badge visitors is provided.

Abernethy Butter needs no introduction! It makes small batch handmade butter and fudge using old traditional methods of churning and patting, using cream from local grass-fed cows. The rolled butter is hand wrapped in distinctive paper. The company is heralded by chefs and royals alike and continues to add accolades every year with 2 more Great Taste Awards added in the 2018 announcements at the end of July.

Irish Black Butter proclaims to be A Great New Taste of Ireland.' It is a delicious conserve made with Armagh Bramley Apples, Armagh Cider, Brandy and spices.

Amazin Grazin produces a selection of   traditional Wheaten Breads full of the flavours of the North Coast.  They have just launched the best gluten free wheaten bread you will find, as a pre-mix which they will have at Speciality Food Fair. The Amazin Grazin Cranberry and Walnut Wheaten Bread was awarded a star in the 2018 Great Taste Awards.


Ispini Charcuterie  has taken the charcuterie world by storm since it set up in the last couple of years. It has won multiple awards including Great Taste Awards and British Charcuterie Awards. They use meats from their own and neighbouring farms which is then dry cured and marinated in Ispini’s unique flavours.


Amberline Organic Produce & Preserves forage fresh ingredients from their bio-eco farm and uses them to make nutritious homemade preserves, syrups, cordials, and jams. Amberline preserves and syrups is made with 70% fresh fruit and vegetables from the farm. The sugar free range is perfect for kids, diabetics or those on a sugar-controlled diet. Amberline will also have organic and foraged produce on their stall at Speciality Food Fair.


Jack's Fudge is a new kid on the block and impressively earned 2 Stars in the recent Great Taste Awards.  Jack’s Fudge is handmade and beaten by hand in small batches in open top pans using local butter from Coleraine.


Ballyriff Buffalo is NI's first and only farm rearing water buffalo. The Ballryiff Buffalo beef has featured on Great British Menu and their burgers won silver at the 2017 is a BlasNa hEireann Irish Food Awards.



Ke Nako Biltong won the BBC’s Top of the Shop series. They produce biltong made from 100% Organic Irish Beef to an old family recipe, preserving the beef in spices. Ke Nako Biltong is high in protein and low in fat and very moreish. The range includes Droewors, Biltong, Chilli Bites and Stokkies.



Bara Bakehouse Northern Ireland’s newest craft bakery specialises in small-batch handcrafted breads, using traditional techniques to naturally develop the flavour and structure of each loaf. Each loaf contains just four ingredients: flour, water, salt and yeast.


Kennedy Bacon is renowned across NI for its multi award-winning hand dry-cured bacon. This is bacon that tastes as it should, savoury, yummy and moreish.


Buchanan's Farm Shop have a dedicated following for their small batch dry cured bacon, flavoured sausages & yoyo burgers (lamb burgers), at the markets they frequent. Come and try and buy their #GreatTasteAward winning bacon at #FoodFairMoira


Krazi Baker is another producer who needs no introduction. The Krazi Baker sets up as a pop-up bakery on site at markets, producing traditional griddle breads. You simply can’t get any fresher. Just follow the waft of fresh bread baking to find him for a feast of soda breads, potato breads, pancakes and the odd sourdough thrown in!

Burren Balsamics needs a stall just to hold their multitude of recent awards. A dash of these small batch whole fruit infused Balsamic vinegars and white balsamics will liven up any dish.  They are produced using locally sourced fruits. Products include the Blas na hÉireann Best Artisan winning product of 2017 and the Gold award winner of 2016.  The products also won 5 stars in 2017 at the Great Taste Awards.

Little Treats is a quirky bakery creating delicious cup cake and cookie treats for all the family including the popular farm animal cake pops.



Castlescreen Farm from the farm gate to the farmers market, Castlescreen offers premium Dexter Beef. Dexter beef is naturally marbled with fat, which gives it a fuller flavour, unique to grass-fed pedigree Dexter cattle.


Made with Love xo produces homemade jams, chutneys and marmalade with a twist.



Caribbean Hot Pickle Totally Hot Caribbean Pickle is a luscious combination of peppers, onions, carrots, garlic and scotch bonnets sliced and marinated in cider vinegar. Another product to earn a Great Taste Awards Star in 2018.


Mange Tout is an award-winning patisserie and deli specialising in hand-made desserts, French patisserie and continental breads. They just received a much sought-after gold star in the 2018 Great Taste Awards for their Belgian chocolate brownies

Cherry Valley Farm lies on the shores of Strangford Lough in Comber, growing seasonal vegetables, including the PGI status Comber Earlies.



Mike's Fancy Cheese is Northern Ireland’s first raw milk cheesemaker. Mike’s Young Buck is made with single herd cow milk from local farmer which he personally collects and turns into the acclaimed blue cheese in his dairy in Newtownards. Mike also curates a selection of raw milk cheeses from around Ireland for his cheesemonger stall at markets.



Corndale Farm is another multi-award winning producer with Great Taste Awards, Blas na hEireann and British Charcuterie accolades to their name. They produce free-range charcuterie & cured meats.


Neary Nogs Chocolate Makers are Northern Ireland's first Chocolate Makers. They are dedicated to crafting fine chocolate from cacao bean to bar, in their family run cacao lab. Neary Nogs produce bars, drinking chocolate, chocolate cups & Rebel Fudgery. Gluten and diary free options also available.

Crumbs Vegan Bakery produces 100% vegan cakes that are a feast for the eyes. The range includes scrumptious cookies, cupcakes and gravity defying cakes.  Gluten free options available.


Noreen's Nettles  If you’ve ever wondered what Nettle Tea can do for your wellbeing – make sure to stop at the Noreen’s Nettles stall for a chat. She is a fountain of knowledge. Noreen makes a range of Nettle teas and powders from her nettle garden at her home.



Cubist Coffee curates the best small roastery coffee from around the UK and Ireland and offers a monthly subscription service. At Speciality Food Fair, you will have the chance to sample and subscribe to speciality coffee which is widely unavailable to the public.



Papas Mineral Company is a small local producer of speciality soft drinks and cordials based in Bangor, Co Down. From the popular non-alcoholic ginger wine, to the light and summery elderflower cordial, there is a drink suitable for any season and occasion.



Erin Grove produces traditional handmade preserves, chutneys, marmalades and fruits for cheese. The range includes a variety of light, sweet and savoury products all bursting with flavour.    



Refuge Hot Chocolate is a start-up social enterprise which makes delectable, thick creamy hot chocolate brewed in Belfast. You can even take a jar home to recreate for movie night. Refuge Hot Chocolate is eco and fair trade friendly.


Erne Larder Preserves specialise in classic & new-age jams, chutneys, curds and sauces, all handmade by Chef Declan O’Donoghue in Enniskillen. They have a new signature Irish Bacon Jam which is mouth-watering!

Tasty wee numbers Home Bakery is a traditional artisan ‘free from’ bakery. It produces 100% gluten and wheat free products, whilst also catering for people who are sensitive to dairy, lactose, egg, soya and sugar. Stop with Tasty wee numbers for an unrivalled selection of tray bakes.


Forthill Farm rear free range pork and beef produced naturally from traditional breeds offering the tastiest and finest cuts of meat.


Tom and Ollie  produce over 65 varieties of olive, hummus and pestos, in addition to the finest selection of cheese, pate, and continental charcuterie. Perfect for a weekend sharing board or picnic!


Glastry Farm is homemade award-winning ice-cream fresh from the farm. There is a flavour to please everyone in the family including honeycomb, Rhubarb & Custard, Berry, Blueberry and Teeling Irish Whiskey.


The Local creates a stir wherever he goes with a distinctive range of preserves, chutneys, savoury jams and sauces. We dare you to try the Volcanic Chilli Jam!

Habanero Steve's  has something for the intrepid and adventurous chilli lover! They produce hot sauce and chilli based preserves that possess a unique depth and flavour guaranteed to tingle the taste buds.

Urban Indian produces authentic and unique Indian chutneys, curry sauces and street food snacks including samosas, pakoras and bhajis

Harnett Oils grow, press, filter and bottle their awarding-winning range of oilseeds that grow on their farm in Waringstown. Their range includes original and flavoured Hemp and Rapeseed Oils.


Street Food Village


Barn and Bread serves mostly vegetarian and vegan food that not only tastes great but looks amazing. They use fresh local ingredients serving it up in a fun & unique style!



Belfast Wood Fired Pizza is artisan pizza made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients on a light, crispy sourdough base.


Corndale Farm pops up again in the Street Food Village with its free range slow cooked hog roast. They’ll be serving rolls with pulled pork served with red slaw and its award-winning chorizo.


Dickie D's grilled cheese is a new kid on the block and newest endeavour of Indie Fude. Try their gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches or raclette for something different. Made with Irish Artisan cheeses, charcuterie and pickles.



Pheasants Hill Farm will be serving up their BBQ and Brunch menu at Speciality Food Fair this year. For the more adventurous taste buds, why not try their Wild Boar Pork Burger or Wild Venison Burger. They will also have a Tamworth pork hotdog and a veggie hotdog option.



The Hatch is a restaurant on wheels with food cooked personally by Chef Colin Johnstone. This awarding winning artisan Street Food Truck has a stunning menu including their delectable southern fried chicken burger and hand cut fries. Make sure to check them out.



The Oyster Catcher is worth a visit whether you are a seasoned Oyster eater or always wanted to try one. The Oyster Catcher will also have fresh Kilkeel dressed crab, fresh chowder and hand-smoked salmon to take home.



Tribal Burger excudes burger love with their range of gourmet and legendary hamburgers and hand cut fries.



Hill's Mixtape is a family coffee company with a passion for the outdoors! They will be on hand to make you your Saturday barista coffee fix. They also make their own, and Northern Ireland's first, bottled Iced Coffee range.



The Crepe Makers make fresh sweet and savoury crepes in their crepe-wagon! The crepe batter is freshly made every day using fresh local ingredients. Crepes are made to order and you can watch your crepe being cooked to how you like it! With an extensive menu there is something for everyone with vegetarian choices.



Nic Cho Chocolate can be found in the Street Food Village with their chocolate cart offering handmade proper hot chocolate or chocolate covered strawberries. They will also have their range of quality Ni Cho Chocolate bars for sale.


The Fancy Fox serves Bró Coffee roasted in Newry using only the finest hand-picked beans. For the tea lovers, they serve Suki Tea and if you need cooled down why not try a Fancy Fox fruit or veg ice pop.


The Original Tornados The crisp with a twist made from local roaster potatoes. They are golden brown and crispy with lashings of flavour to awaken even the most dormant taste buds.

Non-Food Offerings


Armstrong Twisted Fish We never forget the four-legged members of the family at Speciality Food Fair. This year they are really in for a guilt-free treat with Armstrong Twisted Fish’s hypoallergenic, grain free, low fat treats, handmade from fish scales.


Cottage Garden Plants Cottage garden plants in a private nursery to include Herbaceous perennials, shrubs, bedding plants and hanging baskets.


Foliage Works grows a range of beautiful blooms at its flower farm just outside Hillsborough. The hand cut flowers couldn’t be any fresher and last beyond expectations.


Howell and Trowel has a fabulous range of succulents, cacti and indoor plants with some handmade and vintage pots. Perfect for gifts or even a gift to self!


Mrs R'ganics skincare products are handmade in small batches in Crawfordsburn. They are 100% organic, natural & pure & contain no nasties! If you are not already a fan – you soon will be.


Plumpy Balms natural butters are handmade in Newtownbreda and are 100% vegan. They are known to be loved by all the family!

Sorella produces a luxurious range of organic soaps and candles that exude calmness and relaxation.

Finally …. The Speciality Food Fair Café Bar

This year, the newly established The StillHouse will take over the running of the Speciality Food Fair café bar. In addition to the Hilden Brewery craft beer bar, The StillHouse will have a dedicated cocktail bar with a special menu of Ruby Blue Vodka cocktails served up by their cocktail maestros.  Also available will be other local craft drinks including Farmageddon and Tempted Cider in addition to craft spirits, Shortcross Gin, Echlinville Gin & Whiskey, Copeland Gin and Jawbox Gin.
