High Fives at Inns Cross Market

Inns Cross Market is now five years old having celebrated our birthday on Saturday 1st June 2019. A trip to the market on Saintfield Road during the celebration is like any other in that it’s packed with local, seasonal and artisan food. Only during a birthday market there’s a lot more cake!

It seemed like as good a time as any to launch the new branding for the market. Inns Market becoming Inns Cross Market made the occasion even more special for us. The name change is no half measure with the area around the Inns Cross complex receiving a facelift and some additional signage being put in place. With a lick of paint and the Inns Cross Market branding the old petrol station canopy has come in handy for more than shelter from the elements. Thanks to the support of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council you won’t miss the signage with our fancy new arch and all the rest!

With all the excitement of celebrating the past and looking towards the future it would be a shame to forget all the help Inns Cross Market has gotten over the years. A farmers’ market is nothing without its customers. Every month we see the same faces and new faces and we are always chuffed with both. That means that we must be doing something right if the market has become part of the routine of regular customers, and the word is continuing to spread. We’ve kept going through the sunshine, rain, snow and (most challenging of all), wind, since that first sunny Saturday morning in 2014.

A diverse range of local producers with everything from freshly harvested vegetables from the fields of Comber, to rare-breed meats, bread, cakes, preserves, pickles and chutneys made in the time- honoured way, not to mention small-batch artisan cheese, smoked fish, chocolates and fudge - you get the drift. Even getting your Saturday morning coffee fix and farm fresh, farm made, breakfast bap is all part of an Inns Cross Market visit - so we are told! More recently - well in the last 12-18 months - we have added some non-food offerings, but they all match the core market values of local, seasonal, artisan and sustainable, insofar as possible.

We are committed to the ethos of provenance and sustainability. Many of our producers bring their goods from farm to market and proudly our artisan producers’ source locally and ethically. We were delighted to be named in the Observer Food Monthly Awards, and to be named Best Market in NI by Slow Food UK, both nominated by our valued customers, so they mean even more to us.

A few of our regular stall holders have been with the market since the early months, and more have joined the crew since. Some have come and gone but all remain Inns Cross Market family. Our customers and producers alike make the market what it is. Going forward we are committed to championing local food and the talented people who produce it.

Join us on the first Saturday of every month from 10am until 2pm.

FREE ENTRY for everyone, including well behaved dogs. Did we mention the Free Parking?
